Eating like a hobbit
Elves are creatures of Norse and Germanic mythology. They were originally a minor fertility deity and depicted as young men and women, of great beauty, living in forests, caves or springs. They were considered to be long-lived or immortal beings with magical powers. In the Thidrean Saga of Thidre, they were depicted as a minor fertility deity.
In the Saga of Thidrek a human queen is surprised to discover that the lover who impregnated her is an elf and not a man. In the Hrólfs saga kraka a king named Helgi rapes and impregnates an elfin woman dressed in silk.
A poem from about 1020, Sigvat Thordarson’s Austrfaravísur (‘Verses of Journeys to the East’), mentions that, as a Christian, he was refused entry to a pagan residence, in Sweden, because an álfablót (“sacrifice to the elves”) was taking place. However, no further reliable information is available as to what an álfablót entailed, but like other blóts, it is likely that it included food offerings.
“There is a hill,” he replied, “not far from here, where the elves have their shelter. Get hold of the bull that Kormák killed, and redden the hill with its blood, and feast on its flesh for the elves. Thus shalt thou be cured.”
Lord of the Rings meals
– Bury 3 gold (or normal) coins in the yard or in some potted plant. – Place in the window a small cup of honey that is only for them. It is possible that a few days later you will find it empty or changed place, it is normal, they eat it and play with it. – Attract them with ferns and palm trees, their favorite plants.
The miruvor, also called “cordial of Imladris”, is, in J. R. R. R. Tolkien’s legendarium, a warm, fragrant and transparent liquid distilled by the elves. Elrond gave Gandalf a flask of this drink when the Fellowship left Rivendell for Mount Doom.
Thranduil is a character from the fantasy world created by J. R. R. Tolkien. He is an elf of Sindar race, son of Oropher and father of Legolas. King of the Sylvan Elves of the Black Forest since the end of the Second Age of the Sun.
As it could not be otherwise, in this meticulous creation, gastronomy has a fundamental role. And so much so that the author put in the mouth of the dwarf Thorin Oaken Shield, the following words: “If we gave food, joy and songs more value than gold, this would be, no doubt, a happier world”, showing us his love for food, and the good things that happen around it.
It is known that Tolkien was a great lover of gastronomy and this is reflected in his work: the scenes in which drinking and eating fountains appear are very numerous. And, undoubtedly, the place where this taste for good food is most evident is in the leafy hobbit shire.
But gastronomy in this story explains much more, because each group of characters is closely linked to specific culinary customs that characterize them. Thus, just as Bilbo is always ready for a good meal, “Aragorn, the most austere person in the plot, is rarely seen eating,” says José Olmos, cook and lover of the Tolkien world.
Someone touched your elf. If your elf hasn’t moved, he may be trying to convey an important message to you! If they accidentally touch your elf, you may have enough energy to get to the North Pole, but not enough magic to create a whole new scene in your home.
Well, The Hobbit shows that elves can certainly get drunk. They can also die with poison, so presumably an Elf could theoretically drink himself to death. However, they are unlikely to suffer much from the long-term physiological effects of drinking.
By the end of the contest, Gimli is completely drunk and Legolas feels only a slight tingling in his fingertips, and he is completely sober, as if he has never tasted alcohol and it has barely affected him. Switch to The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Elves are described as non-immune resistant to alcohol. Of course, it is possible that Legolas has become tolerant of alcohol. Thranduil and Legolas were Sindar elves, but they rule mainly over wood elves.
